Types of Threads I Use

I embroider using almost all types of threads that I can find in online sources or hobby shops. Mostly, I use silk and rayon. I also embroider with cotton, metallic, polyester, and goldwork threads though I use them less frequently. I don’t use wool and linen threads yet, but I’m curious to try them as well.

The photographs on this page demonstrate more or less all types of the treasures I have gathered. Sorry, I can't possibly show all my threads, there are too many of them!

Threads made of the same material may vary in texture features, thickness, softness, elasticity, and glossiness.

I’m buying more and more machine sewing threads now and routinely use them for my embroideries more often than others.

  1. Cotton Threads for Hand Embroidery

2. Silk Threads

3. Rayon Threads

4. Cotton Threads

5. Cotton Threads for Quilting

I especially love these thick cotton threads. Although they are made of the same material their thickness and flexibility are different. I use them for embroidering branches or trees and the TREASURE thread suits the purpose perfectly because they're pretty rough. They form the shape of a branch better than others. The MASTERPIECE thread is more suitable for foliage because of its softness.

6. Metallic Threads

7. Japanese and Chinese Threads

8. Polyester Threads

9. Goldwork Threads

I’ll describe some types of threads in more detail in my future posts.
